Solve the Right Problem First
The biggest problem in your practice may be the one you're not working on.
Most owners do not have unlimited time to work on their business. So when your finally get a few hours, it's easy to spend them on whatever feels most urgent: payroll, supplies, a team issue, or another problem demanding your attention. You get a lot done, but somehow the practice is still dealing with the same problems next month.
Before you decide what deserves your time, figure out what is actually holding the practice back.
- Find the bottleneck
Patient flow? Case acceptance? Collections? Profitability? Leadership? You do not need to fix everything. You need to identify what matters most right now. - Use the numbers as clues
KPIs can show you where to look, but they do not tell the whole story. Find the people, systems, or processes creating the result. - Protect your highest-value time
Do not spend your limited time working on the business solving problems someone else could handle while the real constraint goes untouched.
Growth does not come from fixing everything at once. It comes from identifying what is actually limiting the practice, putting your attention there, and solving it before moving on to the next constraint. Make sure the time you spend working on the business is focused on the problem that matters most right now.
P.S. There are only two spots left for our DPH Retreat this October. Sometimes getting away from the day-to-day is exactly what you need to see what is actually holding your practice back and build a plan to fix it. You’ll do that alongside other practice owners working through the same challenges. Grab your spot before we fill up.
