Stop Falling for These Practice Owner Mindset Mistakes

Most owners think stress comes from broken systems, but it usually starts in the mind. It is like following your GPS perfectly and still ending up lost because the destination was wrong from the start. I see the same thing in practice ownership all the time. These three traps create most of the frustration.

1. The Dunning Kruger Trap
Early on we feel confident because we do not know what we do not know. Later we doubt ourselves because we now see the complexity. Neither feeling tells the truth.

Ask yourself: Where am I overestimating what I know, and where am I selling myself short?

2. The Work Harder Trap
I used to believe I could outwork any problem. More hours never fixed anything. Leverage did. Leaders, systems, communication, and empowerment always outperform grinding.

Ask yourself: What can I stop doing personally and start building systems for instead?

3. The Control Trap
Doing everything yourself feels responsible, but it becomes a ceiling. If every problem runs through you, the practice cannot grow past you.

Ask yourself: What is one responsibility I can systematize or delegate this month?

If any of these hit home, this episode will help. I walk through each trap and show the mindset shifts that make ownership lighter, more profitable, and a lot more enjoyable.

The Math Behind Your Production Goal
Have you ever noticed how some dentists pick a production goal out of thin air? โ€œI want to do 2 million this year.โ€ Okay, based on what? Most people cannot tell you their required dollar per hour to hit that number, or how many days they actually need to work. That is the issue. If you cannot calculate it, you cannot manage it. Until you know your practice math, your goal is just a wish.ย  Annua...
How Patients Decide When to Say Yes
Case acceptance is bigger than an on-the-spot yes. In our latest episode, I break down one of the most underused concepts in dentistry: next time case acceptance. This is for the patients who hesitate because they are not fully bought in yet, not because they are the problem. The common mistake is trying to close harder in the moment. More explaining, more convincing, more pressure. You can fee...
The Most Expensive Metric Youโ€™re Not Tracking
Most dentists assume their phones are being answered just fine. The phone rings, the team is busy, and patients are coming in. So it feels handled. Here is the problem. If you haven't looked at your missed call rate or listened to any calls, you're probably losing more new patients on the phone than you ever lose to marketing, fees, or competition. The worst part is you do not feel it happening...
