Helping More Patients Say Yes
Most case acceptance is won or lost before the doctor ever enters the room.
Long before you present treatment, your hygienist has already set the stage. They are building trust, educating the patient, answering questions, and helping the patient understand the problem. By the time you walk in, many patients have already decided whether they believe treatment is necessary. That's why a well-trained hygiene team can have such a significant impact on case acceptance.
Here are three habits every hygiene team should develop:
1. Educate, don't just observe.
Patients shouldn't leave hygiene simply knowing they have a problem. They should understand what it is, why it matters, and what could happen if it isn't treated.
2. Create a seamless handoff.
The doctor should never have to restart the conversation. A confident handoff reinforces what the patient has already heard and creates one consistent message from the entire clinical team.
3. Practice treatment conversations.
Great communication is a skill. Give your hygienists the language to explain conditions, answer common questions, and confidently prepare patients for the doctor's recommendations.
A stronger hygiene team does more than improve production. It builds trust, creates clarity, and helps more patients receive the care they need. Explore this idea further in the conversation below.
P.S. I'll be covering this and other hidden production leaks in my upcoming webinar, The Hidden Production Leaks Costing Your Practice $50K–$250K a Year. RSVP in the DPH app under Virtual Events > Free Webinars, or on your desktop under Community Meetups.
