The Hidden Cost of a Full Schedule

You walk into a packed restaurant with every table full and a four-hour wait. It looks like the most successful place in town.

Once you sit down, the service crawls, the food takes forever, and you realize something important. This place is not thriving. It is just inefficient.

A lot of dental practices operate the same way. We see a full schedule and assume everything is great, yet busyness does not equal profitability.

The only number that truly tells the truth is dollar per hour production. If you are producing $1,000 an hour, you can hit massive numbers with fewer days in the chair. If you are grinding through low-dollar procedures, your full schedule might be the thing holding you back.

Here is a quick checklist to see what your schedule is really telling you:

  1. Do the math: Find your real dollar per hour.

  2. Audit your mix: Focus on the most profitable procedures.

  3. Protect your time: Block out space for high-value cases.

  4. Stop the leaks: Track and reduce cancellations.

  5. Redefine success: Measure profit, not busyness.

Tune in to learn how to use these steps to tighten up your schedule and get better results for lighter days and stronger numbers.

Most people cannot tell you their required dollar per hour to hit that number, or how many days they actually need to work. That is the issue. If you cannot calculate it, you cannot manage it. Until you know your practice math, your goal is just a wish.  Annua...
How Patients Decide When to Say Yes
Case acceptance is bigger than an on-the-spot yes. In our latest episode, I break down one of the most underused concepts in dentistry: next time case acceptance. This is for the patients who hesitate because they are not fully bought in yet, not because they are the problem. The common mistake is trying to close harder in the moment. More explaining, more convincing, more pressure. You can fee...
The Most Expensive Metric You’re Not Tracking
Most dentists assume their phones are being answered just fine. The phone rings, the team is busy, and patients are coming in. So it feels handled. Here is the problem. If you haven't looked at your missed call rate or listened to any calls, you're probably losing more new patients on the phone than you ever lose to marketing, fees, or competition. The worst part is you do not feel it happening...
